Does anyone have any experience of being their true self at work? I really struggle to show the ‘real me’ and it’s affecting my mental health by having different personas at home and work. I’d love to be able to relax and just be me. Please help!
Hi Matilda, I used to be the same at my old company, I felt like I had to put up a front to fit in and be accepted. I now work somewhere where originality is embraced and as long as you can do your job well, none of the other stuff matters. This is a breath of fresh air to me – and now I realise that I should have spoken up at my old job, to try and make them realise that as long as I am meeting my objectives for the business, nothing else matters. Perhaps raise this with your line manager or another colleague you can trust, and take baby steps at being yourself at work. It’s amazing what even small changes can make. Hope this helps 🙂
