Inflexible employer, no empathy – help!

Hi all, my employer has announced a new working week where we are working 3 days a week from the office and 2 days from home, which is great, but they are saying that the 3 days in the office are compulsory and not giving us any option, as they want to know where we are 24/7 🙁 I feel like they don’t trust us and aren’t taking into account our mental health.
We haven’t been back to the office at all since March 2020, and now they want us all in work on Monday, all 80 of us together. It’s gone from zero to 100 and my anxiety is through the roof as i’ve not been around that many people for a long time – does anyone have any advice on how i can get them to show more empathy towards their employees? Thanks

This sounds like a tricky situation! I would speak with your line manager or mentor and discuss your concerns, it’s likely that others have raised the same issues and there may be discussions happening within the senior leadership team. Perhaps you can share examples of where you and your colleagues have shown that the team is trustworthy and that you can complete your job successfully from home. Perhaps try to find out why they feel they need to know where you are 24/7, so you can provide reasoning for otherwise. It would be great to hear how you get on, and what others think too!
